Even when you know it’s important, it’s hard to make time for a complex skin care regimen. If you feel rushed in the morning and weary in the evening, you need a simple and quick daily routine that you won’t be tempted to skip. You can supplement the basic plan with special products on a regular basis or whenever you have time to pamper yourself.
Start the day with a clean face! Wet your face with warm water, wash with a gentle cleanser and rinse thoroughly with cool water. Use a clean towel to pat the skin dry. Acne or very oily skin may require additional daily treatment with a product containing benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or beta-hydroxy acid. Cultivate the habit of not touching your face, choose a style that keeps your hair off your face and change pillowcases frequently. You may want to carry some oil-blotting papers or astringent pads in your purse and freshen up as necessary throughout the day. Use a light, breathable moisturizer every morning, smoothing it over your face and neck with your fingertips. When it has been absorbed, apply a good-quality makeup containing sunscreen. If you do not wear makeup, your moisturizer must have sunscreen in it, with a protection factor appropriate to your outdoor activities.
The first step in your evening routine is removing your makeup. Again, use plenty of warm water to wet your face before using cleansing wipes or makeup remover lotion on a cotton pad. When your eye makeup has been completely removed, wash your face with your usual cleanser. Rinse with cool water and pat dry with a clean towel before applying an overnight moisturizer. Night creams are usually richer than daytime formulations. Some women prefer to use a separate lotion or serum for the eye area.
This simple “cleanse and moisturize” routine will keep your skin healthy, but there are many new and traditional natural skin care products you can use periodically to improve its appearance and quality. Masks, scrubs and exfoliating cleansers restore a fresh complexion by removing dead skin cells. Popular treatments are acorn or aloe vera soothing jelly masks from Korea (order here!), facial massage gels made with wine and aloe vera juice in Japan, Scandinavian acne scrubs of oats and onions, and the American chocolate spa cream. The chocolate cream is especially effective because it contains softening cocoa butter and it smells delicious. The aroma will make you smile, and a smile makes you even more beautiful!
